Western region
Vipava Valley and Goriška Brda
Our exploration of the western part of Slovenia begins with a welcome at the starting point in Ljubljana, where the first surprise starts with awakening your taste buds, fitting for the opening of a hedonistic adventure.
The journey from the capital will lead us through the wine region of Primorska, specifically through the idyllic Vipava Valley and picturesque Goriška Brda. Primorska is the warmest wine region in Slovenia, where the influences of both the Alps and the Mediterranean are present. Our first stop is at a family-run winery with a magnificent view of the valley, comparable in size to the world-famous Napa Valley in California. Here we will taste wine that reflect the uniqueness of the Vipava Valley terroir, with a focus on local indigenous varieties such as zelen, pinela, klarnica, and barbera. Together, we will discover the colors, notes, and flavors of the wine and feel the symbiosis between nature and human.
The journey continues to Goriška Brda, often called the Slovenian Tuscany. It is the epicenter of Slovenian viticulture and undoubtedly the most popular and internationally recognized wine-growing region in Slovenia.
We’ll spice up our enjoyment of culinary delights with an incredible 360-degree view of more than 40 villages and hamlets, nestled on gentle ridges surrounded by the Alps to the north and the Italian Collio region to the south. After breathtaking views, we’ll visit a boutique winemaker who will pamper us with his top-notch wine accompanied by a local lunch, and then take us to his cellar, where we can learn about his story of producing organic wine in a company of oak barrels.
Filled with new unforgettable experiences, beautiful views, new flavors, and stories, we return to Ljubljana, where perhaps another pleasant surprise awaits you.
